I apologize for not updating the blog yesterday. I was out sick.
Today, we worked on our compare/contrast essays in writing. We are writing an essay showing the similarities and differences between The Crazy Man, Radio, and the books we read for the Celebrate our Differences unit. Students are in the prewriting stages at the moment, using Venn Diagrams to map out the similarities and differences. I will do some lessons on building paragraphs the next time we have writing.
In reading, I read aloud a historical fiction short story. We talked about the components of a novel that would classify it as historical fiction. Students took notes on this. Then they worked on Read to Self, Respond to Reading or conferring with an adult. The next reading log will be due November 10.
In science (6F), we began discussing the science fair that is coming up soon. Students need to come up with a science experiment of their own to do and display at the science fair. This will be December 2. I passed out guidelines with specific dates for each part and due dates. The end result should be a science experiment that is conducted and its results displayed for the fair. Students looked at other projects from the past and they started looking through books to get a better idea of what their experiments might be. The first part of this project is due November 10. Students need to come up with a question and a hypothesis by this date.
